Fresh off an appearance at the USPHL Premier All-Star Game, the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings’ Cayden Sweitzer is excited to have the next major milestone of his career to announce – his NCAA commitment to Hiram College, an incoming Division III institution that will have its first season on the ice in 2025-26.
“I first started talking to Hiram in early December, me and Coach Curto [Jeffrey Curto, Ph.D] had a connection right away. Hiram likes how I can create plays and find open guys with my vision,” said Sweitzer, a native of Elgin, Ill., who is in his second season with the Riverkings. “The thing I like most about Hiram is that they are a new program, so I will be able to come in and create a culture for the program. Hiram College offers a business management program which is perfect for what I want to pursue.”
Sweitzer joined the Riverkings in 2023 out of the Chicago Flames Midget program and he has progressed immensely since. After putting up 15 points in 2023-24 as a rookie junior player, he now has 51 points in 39 games this season. With that in mind, he was selected by the North/Midwest/Great Lakes All-Star team to play in the two All-Star Games in Foxboro, Mass., Jan. 27-28.
“The USPHL All-Star Event was a great experience and a ton of fun. It’s great getting to play with some of the best players you play against weekly,” added Sweitzer. “I am honored the coaches selected me for it as I was able to connect with many college coaches at the event.
“The USPHL and Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings have greatly improved my game. Coming into junior hockey, I wasn’t sure about my plan but thanks to Head Coach and GM Paul Pechmann, I have greatly increased my game,” Sweitzer added. “The Riverkings are a great program that requires you to put in the effort, and the reward will come.”
The USPHL congratulates Cayden Sweitzer, his family, the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings and Hiram College for his commitment.
